The Red Hat Society is an international women's social organization that was founded in 1998. It was established for women 50+ years old and older and now open to all ages, to have fun and interact with like minded women who embrace life to its fullest.. The founder was inspired by a poem penned by Jenny Joseph an English poet called "Warning " in 1961 and today has chapters all over the world including the USA. Known for their red hats and purple dress the social outings can be as simple as tea's, luncheons and barbecues or as elaborate as conventions and theater outings.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple |
With a red hat which doesn't
go, and doesn't suit me. |
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves |
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter. |
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired |
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells |
And run my stick along the public railings |
And make up for the sobriety of my youth. |
